In addition to line edits, Dianne also gives big picture feedback. She looks at character arc, she tells us if the are character relatable and why or why not.
I remember one instance when she read a picture book of mine. After the rest of the group had given me their feedback, Dianne asked, "Is this the story you want to tell, or is the story in the author's note?" I thought about it for a while and realized she was right. I had written a light story about a young rhino, but the real story I wanted to share was in the author's note.
I re-wrote it and I'm thrilled to say the book was accepted by a publisher. A Family For Faru will be released in the summer of 2020. I will always be grateful to Dianne for her insight and her belief in me to write the story I was meant to write.
I met Dianne two years ago when I was seeking a writing coach. Since then she has become my mentor, teacher, confidant, and friend.
As a teacher Dianne is knowledgeable, experienced and a highly proficient writer. But what makes her a great mentor is that she listens without feeling the need to interrupt, interject or have ready answers. Dianne’s passion for writing is contagious and makes learning simple and easy.
As a writing coach Dianne guides through skillful questioning, probing softly and creating an environment which allows the learner to arrive at their own course of action.
Dianne has helped me to trust in her guidance, develop my confidence, and build my own writing skills.
Thank you Dianne.
